Yeah, it was quite foreseeable: I fell into the downward spiral that's the magic world of 1/6 action figures. Thank God I had made a debt card before to leave for the horrid holiday in Thailand, so I can keep an eye on what I spend. D:

The DiD WWII pilot dude arrived this morning, and he's pretty detailed! However, I don't fancy his head sculpt that much so I decided to snatch a frankendollie from the Bay to use as a model (a basic Hot Toys figure with optional head and hands... the clothes & stuff should be compatible, or so I read on a couple forums. *coughs*) I'm not really into war stuff but I do love miniatures, and this little guy is a pleasure to the eye.

As for the HT model, he'll get this head from the Batman series:

Hot Toys - Joker DX 12 inch Action Figure Police Version

Awwww, cute. The best Joker from the movies, so far (sorry Jack!)
I love this sculpt a lot: it's so detailed and life-like, and the evil scar of doom is YUMMEH. *I have a distorted sense of beauty*
Who needs a modded 1/6 doll when you can have this? :D
So, this poor un-named guy will inherit the stuff from the pilot guy - stuff that was originally intended for my FR Pierre, but things took an unexpected direction. I think he'll make an interesting character... :'D *chuckles*

Now I need to find two names, one for my poor Pierre and one for the Joker. Ouch. I have zero ideas...

Random sketch. D'oh.

Bored. :(

It's January already! :D

January at last! I feel relieved. Christmas is over (yay!), a new decade has begun, and I'm gonna be 32 in a month and a half! Eh, maybe I shouldn't be so hyped about the last thing. *laughs*

For those who care, I uploaded the pictures I took in Japan this past summer, on my Flickr. They're pretty random, as usual. I think I already explained why there are two "Shimoda" there - briefly, I took the wrong train and ended up on in Aoimori (which is at the very north of Japan) instead than Shizuoka (which is rougly 200Km south-west of Tokyo): I wasted one day and was forced to come back to Tokyo and sleep in a dreadful business hotel near the Tokyo subway station... I still have nightmares about it. *laughs* I took photos of the "fake" Shimoda as memento. I bet the place is lovely, but it looked very empty and grim to me... it was one of the few moments I felt very out of place, being a stranger in a city where nobody talked a single word of english.

As for the rest, my darn flu isn't over... it's January already, dammit! *sulks*

My new doll cabinet is in place and ready to be filled with dolls - I'll have to dismantle one of the glass cabinets anyway, and the idea fills me with terror. Ugh. I don't have the slightest wish to do it now, but I'll have no time for it when these holidays are over, so I must run... (and I have like 20 dolls still boxed to place somewhere...)

Annnnd, I set my eyes on a new tiny bjd. Eeeek. I was going to buy a Min Del Re as sister for my Francesca, but then I saw this new doll and I thought I didn't need another Elfdoll at all. Anyway, we'll see, since it's just an idea and things are not certain. :P
This new hypothetical doll could be a pocket version of Joel... I don't really need it but it would be cute to have a small Jo to bring with me everywhere. Oh well, maybe he'll become a completely new character (or just one of the few I thought up and never developed... *COUGHS*)

A bit earlier than expected (shouldn't it be done on January? *laughs* Oh well, I doubt I'll get any other doll before the end of the month...) here's the top ten for the year. :)
The one I did the past year is here, by the way!

Awww. I'm actually blocked in bed with a dreadful case of flu... perfect timing. No card from me this year - maybe I'll have time to draw something, uhm, in time for the New Year's eve? XD

So, in the meantime, I'm going to borrow this Richard Thompson's strip to wish Merry Christmas to you all.. ;)
Have a nice holiday!

WTF!?

Andy Mills is nothing like the prototype, and I mean NOTHING.
The guy in the promo pic was deliciously camp and I loved it at first sight.
The real doll is so ugly it made me cry. Real pics on eBay shows a doll with darker skin, nude lips, a brown wig (not two-toned) and a sloppy facepaint.
I'm torn. He's limted - sorta - but completely dull. All the things I liked in the promo were nuked. I feel outrageously cheated. *sulks*

ETA:
The artist stated that he didn't cut the hair, just loosened the updo.
The auction originally stated:

A former “Fashion Royalty Poppy Parker THE LOOK OF LOVE” repaint by INI.

Descriptions:

She is 12inch fashion Royalty doll. Original body.
Manicure & Pedicure paint to Black Color, Body Shading.
Her hair was layered bob style cutting. She’s Perfect Condition.
Original facial paint completely removed. Carefully repainted and sealed using only artist's quality acrylic paints and sealers.

You can find a closeup of the updo here (photo by Rachel♥Doll on Flickr):

Those locks are all rolled up and look longer than the ones on my doll. I highly doubt the hair hadn't been cut and layered before being styled.

At any rate, even if this is just an unfortunate (!) case of misunderstanding, language barrier and everything, why the artist DID NOT DISCLOSE THE MESS upfront? The darn hole in the back is very visible, and it cannot be considered as "style". :(

I don't know... does this mean that if I manage to recreate the updo I can hide the hole? *rolleyes*

I'm officially pissed off.
I've just redressed the repainted Poppy Parker by INI (check on eBay) that arrived some days ago - you can imagine the hype - only to discover that her hair had been badly chopped off, and I mean BADLY. And this was advertised as "layered bob style" haircut on a doll in "perfect condition"!

I didn't pay attention to the hairstyle at first because the locks were completely glued to the scalp and, somehow, the damage wasn't so visible... but when I tried to wet them to fix the style I discovered the horror. The repaint work is absolutely perfect and I love it, but I wouldn't have spent that much on her if only I had known. I'm particularly mad because I saved the money bit by bit every month for the solely darn purpose to buy a repainted Poppy, either from Park (who's the artist who made my boy & girl Barbie/Ken repaints) or INI. How funny!

I naïvely thought that the seller was well known and respected, but it seems someone thinks it's right to hide some minor details when it comes to money. I can't believe this artist really considers this CRAP as a "styled haircut"... it's insulting.

I'm very displeased and dissatisfied, and the best part is that I already left my positive feedback to this seller - how incredibly RETARDED of me. I sent him a very polite message where I remarked that the haircut isn't really "professional" as expected from an artist of that caliber - it's just a vent, but better than whining and cursing the world from this journal only.

See for yourself:

Uh. This should be my Poppy Parker doll in her new outfit. Maybe I'll try to take a photo tonight, just for the sake of it.
